Halal beauty trade is booming in the UAE

Halal-certificate

Women want safety and more for their money

The halal beauty industry is worth a whopping $24 billion and is expanding rapidly. Women around the world have become more educated, and beauty-savvy; they want more from their products, and more for their money.

UK?cosmetics brand, The Halal Cosmetics Company has just launched in the UAE and distributor of the products, Ashok Puri explains that the demand was already there ? and is growing rapidly.

“The $24 billion market speaks for itself and it is growing exponentially,”?says Puri.

“The confidence arises from the conviction that companies, such as The Halal Cosmetics Company, take their stringency parameters very seriously. The buyer realises these are genuinely halal products.”

An increasing number of halal and ethical brands are popping up in the Middle East, as well as in the UK, and US. Women simply want assurance, and information that their products are safe to use ? thus creating a market for products from the likes of the UAE’s One Pure Beauty, Amara Cosmetics, and The Halal Cosmetics Company.

UAE beauty blogger, Wafa Yehya, of WafasDiary.com says: “I, for one, prefer to use halal products as most of the time the ingredients in the make-up we use on a daily basis tend to penetrate into our skin or we may consume them without being fully aware.”

She explains:?“Some make-up and foundation products contain pork-derived gelatin, keratin and collagens which may be absorbed by the skin and I am sure nobody wants that. “If products use halal ingredients, then we can use them with peace of mind.

“I think this is the case with most Muslim women as awareness about the reason to embrace halal cosmetics and beauty products grows.”

Puri explains that while halal products are free of pork, free of alcohol, blood and animal and human enzymes, it doesn’t just stop at the ingredients on the label. It is about the surrounding conditions too.

He says: “The word ‘halal’ simply means lawful under Islamic terms and we follow those in their entirety. It is just that the niche is massive and addressing it makes good business sense combined with doing the right thing.”

Many halal products use herbal base, Astaxanthin (derived from microalgae), which offers plenty of benefits, including antioxidants explains Puri.

“As a result our body and face creams are anti-inflammatory, visibly impact on the skin and make it glow with youthfulness and reduce dryness while enhancing protection against the sun.”
